- Same happened with me. It's a problem with the FTB launcher. Download MultiMC, then click 'Import from FTB launcher' then find and select your modpack (if you can't find it, let me know). You can then edit the mods you want active and add mods and all that. It's a bit of a pain, no automatic updating or anything, but it beats doing it all manually.
- Step 1: Download the Client. Scroll down to the 'download client' section on feed-the-beast.com and choose to download the.jar file. It makes no difference which one you use. When it has finished downloading, you can move the.jar anywhere you wish. By default, all of the Modpacks will install to a new 'FTB' folder in the place where you.
I just recently got off a Terraria kick, and to play that, I needed a Mac Wrapper for it. Now, I'm trying to play FTB, but the packs won't download. I got the.jar launcher from the Feed the Beast site, but when I try launching a modpack, it will get stuck with the 'Downloading' part.
This article will show you how to install the Feed The Beast Launcher on a Mac. To find out how to install Feed The Beast on a PC, please go to Tutorial:Installing Feed The Beast on PC.
Prerequisites[edit]
- Have a legal and verified Minecraft account.
- Have Java installed.
Step 1: Download the Client[edit]
- Scroll down to the 'download client' section on feed-the-beast.com and choose to download the .jar file. It makes no difference which one you use.
- When it has finished downloading, you can move the .jar anywhere you wish. By default, all of the Modpacks will install to a new 'FTB' folder in the place where you downloaded it to.
- Open the Feed The Beast Launcher .jar. It may take a bit at first for it to configure itself.

Step 2: Launcher Options[edit]
- Before starting to play, you can configure your options in the 'Options' tab. Select an install location for all the mod packs if you want to change it.
- You can choose how much RAM to allocate to Minecraft.
- Under 'Advanced Options', you can adjust the Minecraft window size.
Step 3: Choosing your Mod Pack[edit]
Feed The Beast Download
- Go to the 'Modpacks' tab and click 'Create Profile' from the bottom right dropdown menu. Enter your Minecraft Username and Password and press 'Add'. Your 'Profile Name' can be anything. It is only used as a name in the launcher, not the game itself.
- The Feed The Beast Launcher has many modpacks for you to choose from which all have a slightly different set of mods. You can find information about individual modpacks on this wiki.
- If you have a multiplayer server that you know the Mod Pack of which it is running, download that modpack.
- Choose a modpack, select your newly created profile and press 'Launch'. The modpack will now be downloaded. Once it's done, the game will launch automatically.
Step 4: That's it, you're done![edit]
By now you have FTB installed and you can play at your wish. I do recommend for older Macs grabbing OptiFine, which can be installed by following these instructions instructions. Have fun playing!

The following is a guide designed to help server admins create and maintain a server.
Finding a Host[edit | edit source]
There are two ways of running the server. You can pay for a host like CreeperHost or if you have a good enough computer (or another decent computer) that can host it.
There are several things that come into play when choosing where your server is hosted:
- How many players?
- With 2-10 players on you need about 2-4GB of ram.
- With 10-20 players on you need about 7-8GB of ram depending on how technical the server is.
- How strong the server needs to be to support all the mods?
- Will my personal computers be strong enough?
The best way to test if the server can handle it is trying it out.
Now that you have made your choice the tutorial will split into two sections.
Running it on a personal computer[edit | edit source]
- First thing is to download the server files from the FTB launcher.
- Extract all the files into a folder.
- Edit the start.bat (Windows) or the start.sh (Mac and Linux)
- Xms512M and Xmx1G: These are, respectively, the lowest and highest amount of RAM the server can use; edit it as you see fit.

- Start the server:
- Mac and Linux: Open terminal and do 'cd (server file)' then 'bash startserver.sh'.
- Windows: Double-click the start.bat.
- Connect to your server using the IP localhost.
- Foward your port. Port forwarding lets people outside your internet connect to the server. Every router is different; Googling your router model will help in setting up ports to forward.
Server Host[edit | edit source]
Creeperhost is extremely expensive but easy in the server software section as they have automatic buttons that install FTB packs. With other hosts it is a little more complex.
- Get FTP access then replace the .jar that they have with the ftbserver.jar(remember to rename ftbserver.jar to whatever they had. Then drop in the mods in coremods...etc
- Start the server. If it runs, great! If not ask your host on what to do.
